Costa Blanca Health Care

Going to see the doctor, is probably the last thing you fancy while staying in Altea. But sometimes, it can’t be helped and sickness and misfortune are all of a sudden upon us. Fortunately, there are many family doctors and specialists in Altea and the surrounding area. In Benidorm, there are also two large private hospitals that are open 24/7.

In Spain, pharmacists can be easily recognized by a big green luminous cross.  Most medication can be obtained freely, but for some others, you will need a doctor’s prescription. With a prescription, medicines, even some of those that are sold freely, are often cheaper. In order to find out which pharmacist is on duty in the evening, over the weekend, or on bank holidays, you can check the displays of your nearest pharmacy, in the local newspapers, or online: https://www.cofalicante.com/farmacias-de-guardia/

The Spanish number to dial for emergencies is 112. You can also go to the emergency service of the nearest hospital.
