Castell de l'Olla

For over 30 years, Castell de l'Olla is one of the highlights of the Altea summer. From six specially designed floating pontoons at sea, spectacular fireworks are being launched. A visual sensation as if the fireworks are being fired from the water is created in this way. The shimmering reflection of the Mediterranean Sea by night enhances the optical effect.  A large live orchestra provides elegant classical music, in perfect harmony with the rhythm of the thundering fireworks. It comes as no surprise that this one of a kind firework spectacle manages to attract around fifty thousand spectators every year.

Where and when?
Castell de l'Olla takes place on the tiny La Olla beach, on the Saturday closest to August 10th (San Lorenzo). It is strongly recommended to go to the La Olla beach in the early evening. The fireworks start at midnight and take about half an hour.

Of course, the best place to spot the fireworks is the La Olla beach itself.  The Villa Gadea gardens and the harbors of El Portet de l'Olla and Portosenso provide good alternatives.  The old town of Altea and the urbanizations of Altea Hills and  Sierra de Altea offer nice views of the fireworks as well. For those who are lucky enough to have their own house overlooking the Altea bay, there's the comfort of being able to sit back and relax on your terrace while enjoying the spectacle.

Another option is one of the many boats that are going out specially for the fireworks. They offer the unique pleasure of watching the fireworks from the water. Needless to say that the many restaurants or so-called ‘chiringuitos' along the La Olla beach try to make the most of the massive interest, with special set menus for the occasion. It is certainly one of the most pleasant and comfortable ways to enjoy ' El Castell de l'Olla '. Booking well in advance is an absolute must.

Parking If possible, it is recommended to either go to the La Olla beach by bicycle or scooter or to come on foot or by public transport. Altea town organizes several car parking areas, with a total capacity of more than two thousand vehicles. These car parks are signposted and the local police are on duty to organize the traffic. The local train along the La Olla beach runs all evening long and up into the early hours of the night, which makes it easy to leave the car in one of the allocated parking areas and take the train to La Olla.
